Leigh's Spiritual Garden: Foolish Words

By Leigh Moran

“Remind your people of these great facts, and command them in the name of the Lord not to argue over unimportant things. Such arguments are confusing and useless, and even harmful. Work hard so God can say to you, “Well done.” Be a good workman, one who does not need to be ashamed when God examines your work. Know what his Word says and means. Steer clear of foolish discussions which lead people into the sin of anger with each other.” 2 Timothy 2:14-15

FOOLISH WORDS

You say to-ma-toe and I say to-may-to, oh, I think there is a song that goes like that. We all come from different areas of the United States and the world congregating in different cities far from our birth home. Thus, we each speak a different dialect. In the past when I heard people use incorrect grammar, it seemed like a nail scrapping on a chalkboard to me.

Why did this bother? My education was strong in the arts and, although I do not always use correct grammar, I do have an ear for blatant wrong usage. That is not a very nice aspect of me and so, therefore, I have overcome my “snob” attitude, because it is senseless!

Yes, I suppose in the business world and the world of politics one must be very careful of pronunciation, however, our everyday life can excuse a wrong word here and there.

Those really are minor issues in our life compared to what life is really all about. We need to stop being arrogant over unimportant things.

Feeling God wants us to focus on the Right way to treat each other and avoid any kind of foolish discussion I ask you to try, just for one day, to go forth and overlook foolish judgments, foolish actions, or just plain overlook some of the things that irritate you.

Irritation is something we need to overcome because irritation leads to argument and that in turn leads to emotional and hurtful harm to others and to you.

We traverse into needless discussions over who is right or who is wrong; therefore, we dance on the edge of the dance floor of sin. We get so involved in our own ideas and often force others to listen to us because we KNOW we are right. Folks, I believe the only RIGHT folks are our Father, Our Jesus and Our Holy Spirit.

How ashamed they must be of us when we tend to act like spoiled children when we are, in fact, suppose to be mature adults trying to SHOW God’s love to each other.

These times when people are losing their jobs, I hear people speak of those still working, “They are dragging their feet, not really working hard.” Perhaps the thought on this is, “If I slow down my production, if I slowly straighten up my area, if I, if I,” ….on and on it goes. Who knows why people do what they do, but what it all comes down to is, “Would God be proud of what we are doing?”

We have a lot of work ahead of us trying to get our country and our world back to where life is better for all. Therefore, we must start by being all we can be to MAKE this life better. That involves, quit arguing over stuff that does not matter! Do your job so you can say to yourself, “I am serving God in the best way I can.” We all have different talents and we need to use them very correctly so we flat out, “don’t mess up.” Think about if God came into your place of business and saw you working. Answer for yourself folks, what does God find?

If you go to work with a chip on your shoulder, people can tell. So, get busy and get some of the “darkness” dusted off of yourselves,” and get on with life. You just might be surprised how easy it is to stray away from arguments if you have a smile on your face. Say good morning, good evening to your co-workers, if someone offends you, remember that person may be having a terrible time, whether at work or at home. We do not know the ins and outs of what everyone is going through. Therefore, errors on the good side, forgive, and try to brighten rather than tear down someone’s day.

The bottom line is to get with the program of doing what God calls you to do. Do not always think YOU are Right, who cares if you say to-ma-to and I say to-may-to.” IT DOES NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE, when we all know it is a fruit, it is red and it is a gift from God, and boy, is it good!

God bless you this coming month and dance in joy, sing in joy, smile in joy, love in joy…….do not be foolish and mess with SIN.

Love and

I remain His humble servant,
